Angel

Posted by DHS Student in Uncategorized

For my project I decided to make an angel. To turn trash into something beautiful like an angel is art. To construct my angel I used common house hold items, pop cans and electric lighting wire. I got the pop cans from a party I had over the weekend before and the wire was recieved from the home maintenance class at DHS. After getting my material I started on my project by thinking about how I was gonna construct it. I started by cutting the cans into shapes I could use. I created the wings by cutting ovals and putting them together, I held them together by poking holes into them with a nail and sticking the wire through. For the body of the angel I sketched an angel body on the can with a marker and then cut it out. The problem that I ran into is that the cans want to bend and roll into a tube form and I needed them to be flat, so I had to try to force the cans to be flat and it did kinda work but not completely. I put alot of time and effort into this project and I believe it turned out good. I only hope that it will be able to stay together long enough to have people see it.           Devin

Is there such a thing as trash flowers?

Posted by DHS Student in Uncategorized

I thought the flower sculptures were pretty cool. We were given a bag of random objects and were supposed to make flowers from them. It really forced us to think outside the box, and try to make each flower different. I really liked it.

Save the Rainforest

Posted by DHS Student in Uncategorized

The one environmental problem today that really affects me is the disappearance of the forests and wildlife.I really enjoy the outdoors  it is relaxing place to get away from the noise and drama in the real word. The forests of the world are dissapearing at an alarming rate, due to urban developement and the need formore room to expand housing and factories.

Environmental Issue

Posted by DHS Student in Uncategorized

The biggest environmental problem or disaster I think, is September 11, or the war in Iraq. I think this because so many people lost their lives that day, and for no reason whats so ever. Some people were trying to get out, and some people were trying to get in, and save other people. Also the war because so many people are stepping up for their country, and helping one another. So many people are leaving their loved ones to help our country and just that would be hard.

Environmental issues by Katie

Posted by DHS Student in Uncategorized

The biggest issue i think we have today concerning the earth is that we are using up resources faster than the earth can replenish them. I think the only was we can fix this is to drastically change our life styles to use less and save more.  It is up to us to preserve the world for ages to come. It’s our responsibility and we need to step up and take control.

nothin’ like a warm day and frisbee in the park

Posted by DHS Student in Uncategorized

For my piece on what makes me hopeful, I created a wire model of people playing frisbee. Another thing that makes me hopeful about spring, besides getting out of school soon, is having free time to spend with my friends. Instead of doing something constructive like getting a job, I find myself playing games and still having fun. This is what makes me hopeful.

Katie’s found object sculpture

Posted by DHS Student in Uncategorized

For my found object sculpture I used materials that could be found outside at any given time. I used sticks, dead flowers, and childrens’ toys. I attacted all the object to a wooden board by either staples or wire.  I basically wanted my sculpture to be made up of everyday junk, but when you look at it to see something else. I made a hand out of a dead branch and sticks and made that the center of my piece. I wanted it to be like when you look at the clouds, you can see an object form and it has its very own meaning to you.

Envoronmental Artistry by Justin Frey

Posted by DHS Student in Uncategorized

My piece is about how everything in todays society is becoming too high-tech. Today everybody has computers and cell phones but very few people can apprecieate the natural beauty of grass, and flowers and trees. So I biult this piece to show what’s going to happen. The earth is going to withdraw it’s beauty, and all were going to be left with is a man-made substructure. There’s not going to be any more gardens or flowers anymore. All we’ll have left is “synthetic beauty”. I made my sculpture out of objects that were man-made or influenced by human processes. All of the man- made products are flashy and attractive but it’s not the same as a rainbow of flowers or graceful flowing trees.

Nik’s environmental concern

Posted by DHS Student in Uncategorized

In my view, our largest environmental problem, as a nation, is the overproduction of greehouses gasses due to our lack of frugality when it comes to driving our cars and our usage of fossil fuels. Some companies are producing vehicles that run on hydrogen fuel cells, but these low-emission vehicles wont be available to the general public until approximately 2015. Meanwhile, companies like General Motors continue to make gas-guzzling SUVs, some of which run at an approximated ten miles per galon. If global warming is going to end, everyone needs to realize what they are doing and that they need to be more frugal.

Spring time, the only pretty ring time; bird sing a-ding-a-ding

Posted by DHS Student in Uncategorized

When I sat down to make this project I had a hard time trying to think of what makes me hopeful and what hope means to me. Perhaps because of the weather, my mind kept coming back to spring. The reason this makes me hopeful is because it’s as good as the birth of the year. It’s when the birds come back north and start singing, the trees begin to show their leaves, the grass is green, and best of all its starting to get warm again. The greatest thing after being cooped up in the house all winter is getting out in the sun.
