“Moving Through It” 11″ x 11″, pastel, will be showing at the “Spring Into Summer” exhibition at the N.A.W.A. Gallery, 80 Fifth Avenue, Suite 1405, New York, NY 10011. The show runs from May 22 – July 17, 2008, M-F, 11 am – 5 pm. Approximately 125 N.A.W.A. member will imaginatively interpret “Spring Into Summer” in a variety of media. Conveniently located in the Union Square area of Manhattan, the exhibition is a national show that includes the work of women artists from all across the country.

The artists’ reception will be held on Thursday, May 29th from 4 – 7 pm and all are welcome.

First founded in 1889, the mission of the National Association o Women ARtists (N.A.W.A.) is to promote women artists with the goal of attaining full recognition of the scope of their achievements. Through its exhibitions, programs and archives, it fosters awareness of the important contributions of women artists of all backgrounds and traditions.

Headquarted in New York City, the National Association of Women Artists, Inc. is the oldest professional fine arts organization for women in the United States, and celebrates the art of its mroe than 800 members nationally. The Jane Voorhees Museum at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey houses the ongoing archives and permanent collection of the organization. This is the last of it until I break from Distinctive Gardens in July to prepare for the Quad City Arts show in November. This series is hanging at Distinctive Gardens. Some of it may hang at the Crystal Cork (formerly, Of The Prairie) in downtown Dixon. Currently, I have the River series hanging at Crystal Cork. Stop by, have a glass of wine and check it out.

I found out on Wednesday that “Connections” took second at the National Small Works Exhibit at the National Association of Women Artists Gallery in NYC. I have an honorary 6 month membership to the group and $100 prize. In October, if I choose, I can become a full member without having to go through the jury process. Artists like Judy Chicago and Louise Nevelson are members. This is way too cool. I can’t hardly believe it. Better yet, I was one away from first place which was a solo show at the NY gallery. That gives me hope. Maybe someday….

Until then, I will show again in mid-May through mid-July for their Spring into Summer invitational salon show.

“The Transcendence of Stillness” and “Deluge Dusk” were both accepted to exhibit in the Rock Island Fine Arts Exhibition at the Augustana College Art Museum. April 5 – April 27

The 2008 juror is Dr. David Alan Robertson , Ellen Philips Katz Director of the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art, Northwestern University . Appointed director of the Block Museum in 2002, he previously served as associate director of the University of Chicago ’s David and Alfred Smart Museum of Art, and held museum directorships at the University of Oregon Museum of Art, Loyola University and Dickinson College . Robertson has published widely in the history of art and the history of museums.

Lisa Higby LeFevre of Sterling, IL will be exhibiting her art work “Connections”, pastel, (phone # 815 285 0014, email: lhlefevre@comcast.net), at the upcoming National Small Works, (Members and Non-members), Exhibition of the National Association of Women Artists in their gallery located at 80 Fifth Avenue and 14th Street, Suite 1405, NYC. The juried show scheduled for March 3, 2008 – April 3, 2008 represents women artists from across the United States. This energetic and vibrant show has pieces in a variety of media including sculpture. The maximum size for any work is 15″ x 15″ framed. The styles range from traditional to abstract.

The exhibition consists of 69 pieces of art, both 2-D and sculpture, from 69 artists. Forty artists are N.A.W.A. members and twenty none are non-members. Over seven hundred images were submitted to the jury.

A reception open to the public will be held at the gallery on Thursday, March 6th, 2008, from 5 PM – 7 PM.
Gallery hours are 11 AM – 5 PM, Monday – Friday.

These two pastels have been accepted to the “Mississippi Flyway” show at the Arts Cafe in the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, IA. “Mississippi Flyway” is a show to complement the National Audubon Society show that will be running the end of February 1 through March 28.
